Designed by the internationally acclaimed architect, David Chipperfield, Leonard Cooper Ltd fabricated and erected over 120 tonnes of complicated truss type steelwork to provide the unique roof line to the Hepworth Art Gallery which forms part of the vibrant new waterfront sector in Wakefield.
Working hand in hand with main contractors Laing O’Rourke, Leonard Cooper Ltd provided 34 fully shop welded roof trusses all uniquely different to provide the gallery with 10 different blocks. This presented our design and draughting teams a major test in their skills to provide the Wakefield Waterfront project with the desired effect. It was a privilege to help develop the project into one of the largest and finest galleries outside of London.
