Leonard Cooper Ltd

The company was founded in 1865 by Mr Leonard Cooper, an iron and steel merchant based in Leeds. In his time, the firm passed from father to son who was also given his father's name.

Soon after the turn of the century the company moved its focus to the fabrication and erection of steelwork for the construction industry and by 1919 we were established in our present premises in Balm Road, Hunslet, Leeds.

We supplied not only the steel but the expertise and design behind many iconic buildings and structures in the Leeds area. Some of our earliest steelworks were used in the building of the Maltkilns on Cardigan Road, Leeds in 1923; the stands at the Headingley Football ground in 1931 and Leeds Regal Cinema, built in 1936.

The company became members of the British Constructional Steelwork association in 1935. When the BSCA Quality Assurance Scheme was introduced in 1988, we were one of the first companies to achieve certification to BS 5750 Part 1.

Over the years, Leonard Cooper Limited have designed, fabricated and erected a wide variety of projects throughout Britain. Clients have included industrial and commercial concerns, as well as local authorities and public sector utilities.

Leonard Cooper bring a wealth of experience and innovation, have a reputation for excellence in design, fabrication and erection of high quality structural steelwork. We are the preferred partner of many major developers on new build projects as well the extension and renovation of modern and historic buildings.
